Does the thought of hiring an interior designer make you weak at the knees? Are you afraid you will be judged by your homes appearance? Are you embarrassed?
As I walk through the hallways of a new client’s home, I often notice something. The client inevitably examines their home and appears worried about my perception. A quick tidying of a desk or an apology of an “imperfect” room, makes it obvious that having a designer in your home can make you feel exposed or scrutinized. I often hear “hiring an interior designer makes me nervous”.
However, this is not how it should be. The quirks and imperfections make it a home. Your home. As a society we have created an environment where many feel that their home’s location, size or layout is inadequate. This is simply not the case and I hope I speak for designers everywhere, when I say, each home is charming and beautiful. House shaming is a thing of the past.
You should love your space, even if it doesn’t look exactly like that board on Pinterest, you have been designing for months…because it contains all that is precious to you, even if it didn’t come complete with that perfectly shabby, chic chandelier.
So…make it a space that you love to be in. Not only in appearance, but also, in functionality. Whatever your budget may be, you deserve a space you love. Hiring an interior designer will help you do exactly that…making it fun and not intimidating!
So whether you have an out of town guest, a designer or your mother-in-law over for a visit, don’t sweat the small stuff. Hold your head high. Therefore, love your home. Own it. Embrace it. And as a result of hiring an interior designer who won’t judge your house, you may end up with the home of your dreams
